Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Cuidad Acuña

For the past twenty-five years Gustavo Ramos Rivera, an internationally respected artist, has been collecting art from well-known artists with the dream of building a museum featuring the work of Mexican and international artists and an education center for children in his hometown Ciudad Acuña, a border town in northern Mexico. With the formation of MACCA, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Ciudad Acuña, and friends of MACCA in 2010, a non-profit was formed and fundraising began. Land has been purchased in the center of town as a possible museum site.

The museum would be a focal point in Acuna; a place for people to come with their families for cultural enrichment, to take a class, or have a meal in the café. When a city has more cultural and educational opportunities it brings greater prosperity to the community and increases tourism. To delight in the beauty of art, to be stimulated by enjoying the work of gifted artists is innate to human nature.

Or in the words of the esteemed artist Diego Rivera –

“Art is like ham, it nourishes people.”

MACCA, is the manifestation of Ramos Rivera’s aspiration to give the gift of art to the people of Acuña.
